A strong majority of adult Filipinos believe Vice President Sara Duterte ought to face the impeachment charges brought against her and directly confront the corruption allegations, according to a recent Social Weather Stations (SWS) survey fielded ahead of her Senate trial.
The non-commissioned nationwide survey, administered from June 20 to 29, revealed that 70% of participants agreed she should answer the impeachment complaint and corruption accusations. Conversely, 17% expressed disagreement, and 13% remained undecided.
This result yields a net agreement rating of +52 (percentage of agreement minus disagreement), reflecting a five-point jump from the +47 score logged in March, when agreement stood at 67% and disagreement at 19%.
Geographically, the Visayas posted the strongest net agreement at +58, closely followed by Balance Luzon at +56, Metro Manila at +49, and Mindanao at +42.
Compared to the previous quarter, net agreement surged by 15 points in the Visayas, rose by four points in Balance Luzon, and gained five points in Mindanao. Metro Manila was the sole region to record a dip, dropping by seven points.
Additionally, 74% of respondents reported prior awareness that the impeachment complaint had advanced to the Senate for trial, whereas 26% indicated they only learned about the development during the survey interview.
Public awareness was highest in Metro Manila (79%), followed by Mindanao (77%), Balance Luzon (74%), and the Visayas (69%). The survey also highlighted a clear correlation between educational background and awareness: 93% of college graduates were informed about the trial, compared to 56% among those who had not finished elementary education.
The SWS poll utilized face-to-face interviews with 1,200 adult respondents across the country. It carries a national sampling margin of error of ±3% and ±6% for regional breakdowns.
