NBI AGENT TESTIFIES ON SECOND DAY OF VP SARA’S IMPEACHMENT TRIAL

On the second day of Vice President Sara Duterte’s impeachment trial, prosecutors called a senior agent from the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) to the stand to support allegations that she made grave threats against President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos, and former House Speaker Martin Romualdez.

NBI Cybercrime Division senior agent John Mark Calilung, questioned by House prosecution counsel Amando Virgil Ligutan, confirmed he was part of the forensic team that analyzed a video from an online press briefing on November 23, 2025, where Duterte allegedly made the threatening remarks.

Defense lawyer Carlo Joaquin Narvasa tried to block the testimony, arguing that Calilung’s name was missing from the initial impeachment complaint and the articles sent to the Senate.

However, presiding officer Senator Francis “Chiz” Escudero denied the defense’s motion, citing Supreme Court precedents that allow the prosecution to introduce new evidence and witnesses during the pretrial stage.
