NLEX preserved its flawless record in the PBA Season 50 Governors’ Cup, staging a strong fourth-quarter push to overcome Converge, 117-109, on Saturday, August 1, at the Mall of Asia Arena.
The Road Warriors pulled away late thanks to the high-scoring tandem of Schonny Winston and Dequan Jones, who delivered 22 of NLEX’s 31 final-quarter points. Their combined efforts sealed the win and solidified NLEX’s hold on the top spot in Group A.
Jones spearheaded the offense with a team-high 28 points alongside nine rebounds, while Winston stuffed the stat sheet with 24 points, six rebounds, and five assists. Winston sparked the decisive stretch early in the fourth period, reeling off seven straight points to stretch NLEX’s lead to 102-91.
Converge made a late push to slice the margin down to 105-103, but Jones responded with eight consecutive points to push the Road Warriors back up, 113-103, effectively putting the game out of reach.
Robert Bolick flirted with a second straight triple-double, tallying 19 points, 10 assists, and nine rebounds. Anthony Semerad and Kevin Alas also scored in double figures with 15 and 14 points, respectively.
Jamal Franklin paced Converge with 26 points, seven rebounds, and six assists. Mikey Williams dropped 18 points, while Justin Arana added 16 and Juan Gomez de Liaño chipped in 14.
The loss served as the FiberXers’ third straight setback, dropping their record to 3-3.
