NO DESTABILIZATION PLOTS WITHIN ACTIVE MILITARY RANKS

Defense Secretary Gilberto “Gibo” Teodoro Jr. on Monday dismissed rumors of unrest within the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), stating that no destabilization efforts have been monitored among active-duty personnel amid the potential impeachment of Vice President Sara Duterte.

Addressing the media, Teodoro clarified that while some former members of the military have been vocal about the current political climate, the active ranks remain professional and focused on their constitutional mandate.

“Sa ngayon, involving active duty members, wala kaming namo-monitor at ’yun lang ang tinututukan namin,” Teodoro said.

The Defense chief acknowledged that retired military personnel have expressed various opinions online and in public forums. However, he emphasized that these individuals no longer hold sway over the standing army nor fall under the Department of National Defense’s (DND) authority.

“Wala na kaming jurisdiction sa kanila at wala naman silang impluwensya sa kasundaluhan. Libre sila bilang normal citizens na magpahayag,” he added.

The statement follows concerns raised earlier this year regarding alleged efforts to court the uniformed services for a “military-backed revolution.”

While the intelligence community continues to monitor for any threats against the administration of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., Teodoro maintains that the institution remains stable despite the ongoing political noise in the legislature.
