More than 1.31 million people have been affected by the combined impact of tropical cyclones “Luis” and “Maymay” and the enhanced southwest monsoon or habagat, with authorities reporting 12 deaths, eight missing individuals and 11 injuries as of Monday.
Office of Civil Defense (OCD) Assistant Secretary Laurence Mina said during a press briefing at Malacañang that 384,520 families, representing around 1.31 million people, were affected across 10 regions.
Mina noted that the reported deaths, missing persons and injuries remained subject to validation by authorities.
The incidents recorded so far involved various weather-related events, including landslides, a rockslide, drowning, electrocution and a tree that fell.
The weather disturbances also caused damage to 367 houses nationwide. Of these, 27 were completely destroyed while 340 sustained partial damage.
A total of 16,130 families, or approximately 58,650 people, were taking shelter in 624 evacuation centers. Another 11,360 families were receiving assistance while staying outside designated evacuation facilities.
Government agencies have provided ₱42.87 million worth of assistance to families affected by the severe weather, while search-and-rescue efforts remained underway in areas of Benguet and Baguio City.
Mina said rescue teams and equipment continued to remain on standby as authorities monitored communities vulnerable to flooding and landslides.
Meanwhile, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) has positioned more than five million family food packs across the country for distribution when necessary.
The agency had previously said it had ₱1.61 billion in standby funds available to support disaster response operations.
