The Office of the Ombudsman announced that it will pursue all available legal avenues after the Sandiganbayan Third Division allowed former Senator Ramon “Bong” Revilla Jr. to post bail over his alleged involvement in a ₱92.8-million ghost flood control project in Pandi, Bulacan.
While acknowledging the anti-graft court’s ruling, the Ombudsman affirmed that it stands firm on its investigation and the strength of the evidence gathered against Revilla.
“The Office of the Ombudsman, while it respects the orders and decisions of the Sandiganbayan, must stand by its own investigation and work.”
The agency highlighted its intention to exhaust further legal steps to demonstrate that the case against the former lawmaker remains solid.
“We will exhaust all remedies to highlight the basis for which we can say that evidence of guilt is indeed strong against former Senator Ramon ‘Bong’ Revilla.”
The court granted Revilla’s petition upon posting a ₱1-million cash bond, though it denied the bail applications of six co-accused individuals involved in the case.
Clarifying its decision, the Sandiganbayan emphasized that the order evaluated only whether the evidence justified keeping the accused detained pending trial, and was not a judgment on Revilla’s ultimate guilt or innocence.
The criminal proceedings will continue, with the Ombudsman maintaining its commitment to prosecute the case.
