More than 132,000 individuals across six regions have been affected by Tropical Cyclones “Maymay” and “Luis” alongside the enhanced southwest monsoon, according to a report released by the Office of Civil Defense (OCD).
The agency’s 6 a.m. update detailed that 39,879 families, totaling 132,956 people, sustained impacts in the Ilocos Region, Cagayan Valley, Central Luzon, Bicol Region, Zamboanga Peninsula, and the Cordillera Administrative Region. Among those affected, 6,215 individuals (2,021 families) remain displaced and are taking refuge across 61 evacuation centers.
The OCD confirmed four fatalities directly connected to the severe weather. A rockfall-landslide in Rodriguez, Rizal, claimed the lives of a 20-year-old man and a 22-year-old woman.
In La Trinidad, Benguet, an August 6 landslide struck a restaurant kitchen in Barangay Shilan, killing cooks Jerry Binay-an Agbuya, 66, and Lemar Gawidan Ciano, 31. A third cook, 55-year-old Dino Binay-an Agbuya, was injured and transported to Benguet General Hospital.
While the Philippine National Police (PNP) previously cited six deaths—including drowning incidents in Luna, La Union, and Alaminos, Pangasinan—the OCD noted that those additional cases remain under review.
“The monitored two other casualties (drowning incidents) that are not yet included in our report are still under validation and verification,” said OCD information officer Diego Agustin Mariano. “If these incidents are indeed caused by the two tropical cyclones and the monsoon, the OCD has a different protocol for reporting casualties from the PNP. If they are verified/validated to be caused by the weather systems, they will be added to our report.”
No missing persons have been reported to date. Infrastructure damage remains limited to 14 homes, with 13 partially damaged and one completely destroyed.
The government has distributed ₱3.595 million in relief assistance to affected communities.
