More than 28,000 individuals—comprising roughly 2,800 families across 10 regions from Luzon to Mindanao—remain in temporary shelters despite improving weather conditions following heavy rainfall and storms.
The combined impacts of tropical cyclones “Luis,” “Maymay,” and “Neneng,” alongside the southwest monsoon (habagat), affected over 7.7 million people and damaged more than 2,800 homes.
Reports from the Office of Civil Defense (OCD) confirm 31 fatalities, mostly due to drowning and landslides, with three individuals still missing. The severe weather also inflicted nearly ₱6 billion in infrastructure destruction and close to ₱2 billion in agricultural losses, prompting 104 local government units to declare states of calamity to expedite relief efforts.
In response, the national government has released ₱15 billion for food aid and infrastructure repairs.
Amid these disaster response operations, the OCD convened representatives from government, academia, the private sector, and international groups for a summit titled “Engineering Resilience: Building to Last Towards a National Public-Private Partnership for Earthquake Resilience” to strengthen multi-sectoral preparedness following recent destructive quakes in Mindanao.
