PAGASA FORECASTS GENERALLY FAIR WEATHER AS OFFSHORE CYCLONE WEAKENS

The Philippines is expected to enjoy mostly favorable weather conditions in the coming days, with no tropical cyclones anticipated to breach the local weather boundary, the state weather bureau announced on Friday.

While fair weather will dominate, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) noted that afternoon and evening thunderstorms remain likely across various parts of the country.

Offshore Depression Unlikely to Enter PAR

As of 5:00 AM, weather monitors tracked a tropical depression approximately 3,000 kilometers east of Southeastern Mindanao. Because the system is still outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) and has not yet reached tropical storm strength, it has not been given an international name.

Current projections indicate a very low probability of the system entering PAR. Forecasters expect the depression to gradually decay into a low pressure area over the next few days.

Monsoon to Expand Rainfall by Sunday

While daytime heating will trigger localized thunderstorms nationwide, the southwest monsoon (Habagat) is currently driving isolated rains and cloudy skies over Extreme Northern Luzon.

The weather pattern is expected to shift over the weekend and early next week:

  • Through Saturday: Generally fair weather will persist across most regions.
  • Sunday: The Habagat is forecast to expand its reach, bringing scattered rain showers to the Ilocos Region, Bataan, and Zambales.
  • Monday to Tuesday: Monsoon rains are expected to spread to the western portions of Central and Southern Luzon, as well as sections of Western Visayas, bringing cloudier skies and increased rainfall.

Safety Advisory: PAGASA urges the public to remain vigilant against potential flash floods and landslides during severe, localized thunderstorms.

Safe Sea Travel Expected

Coastal conditions remain favorable, with no gale warnings active anywhere in the archipelago. Safe passage is expected for small sea craft as coastal waters remain slight to moderate.

However, mariners are still advised to exercise caution, as sudden thunderstorms can temporarily cause choppy seas.
