PAGASA FORECASTS MORE FREQUENT RAINFALL AS NATION ENTERS WEATHER TRANSITION PERIOD

Various parts of the country are expected to experience increased rainfall toward the end of May, state weather bureau PAGASA announced on Sunday.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) clarified that the recent downpours do not yet signify the official onset of the rainy season, but serve as a clear indicator that the country is currently transitioning into it.

The advisory followed sudden heavy downpours that drenched several parts of Metro Manila on Sunday afternoon.

”Technically ang May ay transition period po from tag-init to tag-ulan. So asahan natin na towards the end of this month mas dadalas na ang ating thunderstorm activity prior sa totoong pagsisimula ng pag-iral ng habagat,” PAGASA Weather Forecaster Dan Villamil said in a radio interview.

(“Technically, May is a transition period from the hot dry season to the rainy season. So let us expect that towards the end of this month, our thunderstorm activity will become more frequent prior to the actual onset of the southwest monsoon.”)

Villamil added that while the daytime weather may remain generally warm and humid, localized weather disturbances will continue to bring sudden relief.

”Possible mainit at maalinsangan pa rin pero andyan pa rin yung mga biglaan at panandaliang ulan na dulot ng thunderstorms,” he added.

(“It is possible that it will still be hot and humid, but sudden and short-lived rains caused by thunderstorms will still be there.”)
