PAGASA WARNS OF RAIN ACROSS THE PHILIPPINES DUE TO ITCZ AND LPA TROUGH

QUEZON CITY, Philippines — The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) reported on Friday, October 9, that several weather systems will bring cloudy skies, scattered rain showers, and thunderstorms across various parts of the country.

According to the state weather bureau’s 4 a.m. bulletin, the Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) continues to influence the weather across the Visayas, Mindanao, and Palawan, while a northeasterly windflow is impacting the eastern sections of Northern and Central Luzon.

The trough or extension of a Low Pressure Area (LPA) is expected to bring overcast conditions accompanied by scattered rains and thunderstorms to the Bicol Region, Eastern Visayas, Quezon, Marinduque, and Romblon.

The ITCZ will trigger similar rainy weather across Mindanao, Palawan, and the remaining areas of the Visayas.

In Northern Luzon, the northeasterly windflow will bring cloudy skies and light-to-moderate rains to Cagayan Valley, Apayao, Kalinga, Mountain Province, Ifugao, and Aurora.

Meanwhile, Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon can anticipate partly cloudy to cloudy weather, with brief, localized rain showers or thunderstorms occurring in the afternoon or evening.

PAGASA cautioned residents in vulnerable locations that moderate to heavy rainfall could trigger flash floods or landslides. The weather agency also warned that severe localized thunderstorms in Metro Manila and surrounding regions could cause sudden urban flooding.

Members of the public are urged to stay vigilant against abrupt downpours and regularly check for updated weather advisories, particularly in high-risk areas prone to landslides and rising floodwaters.
