President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. will lead a homecoming reception at Malacañang on Monday evening, July 13, to celebrate the historic Wimbledon achievement of tennis star Alex Eala.
According to Palace officials, the recognition ceremony is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. President Marcos previously praised Eala’s exceptional performance at the prestigious Grand Slam tournament, labeling the Filipina athlete as “world-class” following her historic run on the grass courts.
The President also emphasized that her success serves as a powerful inspiration for young Filipinos aiming for excellence in sports.
Eala secured her place in Philippine sports history by becoming the first-ever Filipina to be seeded 29th at Wimbledon and the first to progress to the tournament’s Round of 16.
Regarding potential government financial rewards for her milestone performance, Palace Press Officer and Communications Undersecretary Claire Castro noted that there is no official confirmation yet, clarifying that any declarations about incentives would be made directly by the President.
Eala’s recent milestone further cements her status as a premier Philippine athlete on the international circuit.
