President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has authorized the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) to transmit the tax records of Vice President Sara Duterte and her husband, Atty. Mans Carpio, to the Senate Impeachment Court, Bicol Saro Party-list Representative Terry Ridon announced Thursday.
Speaking at a press briefing, Ridon—a member of the House prosecution panel—stated that bank and financial documents involving ₱6.7 billion in total transactions, including ₱4.4 billion in inflows, are being turned over to the Senate.
He noted that the newly submitted financial records could bolster Article I of the impeachment complaint, which focuses on the alleged misuse of confidential funds.
”Lumiliit na ang mundo ng atin pong pangalawang pangulo. ‘Yun pong mga bank records, bank documents ay isa-isang isinusumite ngayong araw na ito sa Senado para ho sa Senate impeachment court,” Ridon said.
”‘Yung pong BIR documents ng mag-asawang Duterte-Carpio at kanila pong mga pamilya ay isinumite na rin sa Senate impeachment court. Nagbigay ang Pangulo ng Pilipinas ng kanyang approval para ilabas po itong mga dokumentong ito,” he added.
Compliance with the court’s subpoena was carried out Thursday morning when BIR representatives formally delivered Duterte’s tax records—enclosed in a red box—to Office of Senate Secretary Rey Bantug, who serves as clerk of the Impeachment Court.
Ridon emphasized that the submission of these crucial documents leaves the Vice President with increasingly limited defense options as the trial moves forward.
