PBBM CALLS ON FILIPINOS TO PROTECT TRUTH AND USE TECHNOLOGY RESPONSIBLY ON 128TH INDEPENDENCE DAY

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. urged Filipinos to safeguard the truth, utilize technology responsibly, and rebuild societal trust during the nation’s celebration of its 128th Independence Day on Thursday.

In his national address, President Marcos Jr. extended his greetings to Filipinos both locally and abroad. He reflected on the profound historical weight of June 12, 1898, the day the Philippines declared its sovereignty from Spanish colonial rule in Kawit, Cavite.

“It was the moment we formally asserted our right to govern ourselves and determine our own destiny,” the President said.

The President acknowledged that the country’s path since achieving freedom has been tested by conflicts, socio-economic crises, and periods of deep uncertainty.

However, he emphasized that the enduring resilience of the citizenry has allowed the nation to persevere.

“Yet through wars, crises, and uncertainty, the Filipino spirit endured, and our determination to build a better Philippines prevailed,” he said.

Marcos Jr. stressed that liberty should not be viewed as a static inheritance from the past, but rather as an ongoing responsibility that every citizen must actively uphold.

He noted that while historical generations resisted colonial oppression through revolution, political reform, and intellectual movements, contemporary Filipinos face an entirely different battleground.

“We must protect truth from distortion, harness technology wisely and restore trust in a time increasingly marked by division and distrust,” Marcos said.

The President stated that how the country navigates these modern challenges will ultimately shape its future and define the legacy passed on to the next generation.

Closing his message, Marcos Jr. honored both historical heroes and modern-day citizens who contribute to the welfare of the country, expressing hope that the annual commemoration would deepen historical appreciation and inspire collective nation-building.

“As we continue to write our national story, we pay tribute to the heroes who secured our liberty and to the countless Filipinos who have devoted their lives to advancing the common good,” he said.

President Marcos Jr. is scheduled to lead the official Independence Day ceremonies at Rizal Park and the Quirino Grandstand in Manila.
