President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has condemned the armed attack targeting the convoy of Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) Interim Chief Minister Abdulraof Macacua in Maguindanao del Norte.
Communications Undersecretary and Palace Press Officer Claire Castro stated that the Chief Executive instructed relevant government bodies to bolster security operations across Bangsamoro territory and undertake a comprehensive investigation to apprehend the perpetrators.
Furthermore, President Marcos provided reassurances that the violent event will not impede the national government’s dedication to supporting the BARMM region during its transition toward democratic rule.
In addition, President Marcos called on citizens to remain calm and respect human dignity.
According to preliminary reports from law enforcement authorities, the shooting occurred along the National Highway in Barangay Bitu, Datu Odin Sinsuat, at approximately 4:44 p.m. on August 15.
The attackers quickly fled in an undisclosed direction, while the targeted motorcade continued moving toward Cotabato City.
