President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. left for Singapore on Tuesday evening for a brief, two-day working visit aimed at strengthening the Philippines’ economic and strategic partnerships within Southeast Asia.
The presidential plane departed Villamor Airbase at 5:27 p.m. with a streamlined delegation that notably excluded the Philippine press corps, marking a departure from standard protocol.
The brief trip features a dense diplomatic and economic schedule. President Marcos will hold a bilateral meeting with Singaporean Prime Minister Lawrence Wong to align strategies on regional commerce, healthcare programs, environmental sustainability, and international development.
The meeting comes at a pivotal moment as the Philippines prepares to transfer the ASEAN chairmanship to Singapore next year, underscoring the push for a unified regional front.
In addition to political talks, the President will focus on drawing foreign investments. He is slated to lead a private roundtable organized by the Milken Institute at the Philippine Embassy, where he will promote the country’s recent World Bank upgrade to “upper-middle-income” status to court business leaders.
Meanwhile, First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos will participate in a separate international engagement. Invited by the Future Economic Cooperation Council, she will deliver a speech at the Global Economic Cooperation East Summit to join discussions on evolving international economic alliances.
This trip represents the President’s 45th official overseas travel since his inauguration in 2022. He is scheduled to wrap up his engagements in Singapore and return to Manila on Thursday.
