PBBM DISMISSES RUMORS OF REMULLA’S OUSTER, HINTS RIVALS COVET THE POST

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. shut down rumors that he has lost confidence in Interior and Local Government Secretary Jonvic Remulla, suggesting the gossip is being fueled by individuals eyeing the Cabinet position.

Speaking at a press conference on Friday, May 29, following his state visit to Japan, Marcos firmly denied any plans to replace the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) chief, despite recent scrutiny over high-profile fugitives evading arrest under the agency’s watch.

When asked directly if he remains satisfied with Remulla’s performance, the President responded in the affirmative and questioned the motives behind the ouster rumors.

”I don’t know why that rumor went around. I think somebody wants his job,” Marcos said.

”Kaya kinakalat na matatanggal na siya para siguro ang inaasahan nila, sila yung mailagay. Pero wala kaming pinaplano na ganyan,” (That’s why rumors about his removal are being spread, probably because they hope they will be appointed instead. But we have no such plans.) he added.

Marcos clarified that the administration’s Cabinet remains stable, noting that the only recent leadership change occurred at the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE). Former Senator Francis Tolentino was recently appointed as the acting DOLE secretary, succeeding Bienvenido Laguesma.

”The only latest change in the Cabinet was in DOLE. Because Secretary Benny has asked to take a step back. He has some issues that he has to deal with. And so, we have appointed a new Cabinet secretary for DOLE, which is former Senator Francis Tolentino,” Marcos explained.
