President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. led a situation briefing with senior Cabinet officials at Malacañang on Monday, August 10, as the southwest monsoon, or habagat, continued to bring heavy rainfall and flooding to several areas of the country, particularly in Luzon.
The meeting was intended to provide Marcos with updates on communities affected by flooding, including the situation of residents who have been moved to evacuation centers.
Government officials were also expected to brief the President on ongoing emergency response operations and assistance being provided to families affected by the persistent rains and flooding.
Marcos was likewise expected to give instructions to relevant agencies to ensure that affected communities remain safe and receive immediate assistance as the effects of the habagat continue.
The briefing came after Marcos earlier directed government agencies to stay on heightened alert and prioritize public safety, particularly in areas that could be affected by water releases from dams as reservoir levels rise.
Meanwhile, Malacañang announced a work-from-home arrangement for government employees in several parts of Luzon on Monday in anticipation of continued heavy rainfall associated with the southwest monsoon.
