PBBM MEETS FEDEX LEADERS TO BOOST PHILIPPINES’ LOGISTICS SECTOR

SINGAPORE — President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. met with senior executives of FedEx Corporation in Singapore to discuss strengthening the company’s partnership with the Philippines and expanding opportunities in logistics, e-commerce, and supply chain services.

In a social media post on Thursday, October 8, Marcos said the meeting focused on sustaining cooperation with the global delivery company and exploring ways to develop the country’s logistics industry further.

“I met with the leadership of FedEx to discuss their continued partnership with our country and the opportunities to further grow our logistics, e-commerce and supply chain sectors,” Marcos said.

“With investments like these, we are creating more opportunities for Filipino businesses to connect with the world,” he added.

Malacañang said FedEx Airline and International President and CEO Richard Smith expressed confidence in the Philippines, telling Marcos that “the Philippines is doing everything right.”

The meeting took place on the sidelines of the President’s participation in the Forbes Global CEO Conference, part of his five-day working visit to Singapore.

According to Malacañang, FedEx executives thanked the Philippine government for its support as they discussed the company’s expanding operations in the country. FedEx currently operates close to 40 flights weekly in the Philippines, supporting the government’s goal of developing the country into a regional logistics hub.

The company maintains two major facilities in the country: the Clark Gateway Hub at Clark International Airport in Pampanga and the Manila Gateway at Ninoy Aquino International Airport in Pasay City.

Initially opened in 2021 as a 17,000-square-meter facility, the Clark Gateway Hub serves as a key center for processing and routing international air freight entering and leaving the Philippines.

FedEx began a major expansion project in May 2026 to increase the facility’s size to more than 78,000 square meters. The project is expected to enhance package sorting, handling efficiency, and the processing of specialized and temperature-sensitive cargo.

The expanded hub, which will be more than four times the size of the original facility, is scheduled to open in the fourth quarter of 2028. It is expected to increase international freight capacity and help Filipino micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) access overseas markets.

Smith also indicated that another expansion could be necessary if the company’s growth in the Philippines continues at its current pace.

Aside from freight operations, FedEx runs an Asia-Pacific Trade Facilitation Center in Clark. The regional facility handles administrative processes, customs documentation, data management, and profile-matching services for key markets across the Asia-Pacific region.

Marcos previously met with FedEx executives on November 15, 2023, on the sidelines of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Economic Leaders’ Meeting in San Francisco, California. During that meeting, they discussed the company’s proposed $180-million Clark 2.0 expansion plan, which sought to strengthen the Philippines’ position as an international logistics hub.

Headquartered in the United States, FedEx provides transportation, e-commerce, and business services worldwide. Its Asia-Pacific headquarters is located in Singapore, with operations covering supply chain management, customs brokerage, trade facilitation, and electronic commerce.

The company operates an extensive air and ground network serving more than 220 countries and territories and employs over 500,000 people globally.
