President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has ordered government agencies to execute preemptive evacuations in vulnerable areas and strategically position emergency responders and relief goods ahead of Super Typhoon Bavi, Malacañang announced on Monday.
Communications Undersecretary and Palace Press Officer Claire Castro stated that the President’s directives include preparing evacuation centers, establishing livestock shelters, mapping out alternative transport routes, and enforcing timely sea travel bans.
Agencies were also instructed to inspect critical infrastructure, support vulnerable populations, and monitor potential waterborne diseases.
Furthermore, disaster management councils have been placed on high alert to conduct risk assessments and ensure weather warnings are widely broadcast.
“Ito naman ay whole of government approach. So lahat ng ahensya na involve ay kailangan po kumilos. Yan ang utos ng Pangulo,” Castro said.
“Ang utos ng Pangulo ay whole-of-government approach kaya lahat ng ahensiya na involved ay kailangan kumilos,” she added.
As of early Monday morning, Super Typhoon Bavi was packing winds of 215 kilometers per hour with gusts up to 265 kph, positioned 2,355 kilometers east of Southern Luzon.
Weather forecasters anticipate the storm will enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility by midweek, where it will be locally named “Inday.”
