President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. renewed his commitment to support overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) impacted by ongoing conflicts in the Middle East, assuring them of continuous assistance for both their safety abroad and reintegration at home.
Delivering his fifth State of the Nation Address on Monday, President Marcos detailed the government’s relief efforts, noting that over 12,000 OFWs have been safely brought home, while more than 140,000 others received essential aid—including food, medical assistance, financial support, and temporary shelter.
Highlighting the gravity of the situation, the President underscored that safeguarding migrant workers remains a top priority, particularly with over 2.5 million Filipinos stationed in the Gulf region.
“Patuloy ang ating ugnayan sa iba’t ibang bansa at ang suporta natin sa mga OFW para sa kanilang kaligtasan, lalo na at may mga kababayan tayong nasawi o nawawala sa Middle East,” Marcos stated.
To help returning workers rebuild their lives, the government offers financial and livelihood aid through the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration and the AKSYON Fund.
Job opportunities are also being made available via local Public Employment Service Offices and specialized job fairs under the Bayanihan para sa Balikbayang Manggagawa program.
Additionally, returning OFWs with teaching backgrounds will be integrated into the public school system to help address local teaching needs.
“Ang mga magbabalik nating mga gurong OFW ay papasok na sa mga public schools kung saan sila’y higit na kinakailangan. Dahil dito sa Pilipinas, sila ang mga ‘ma’am at sir,’” the President added.
