PBBM PROMOTES PHILIPPINES AS REGIONAL TECH HUB DURING SINGAPORE VISIT

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. positioned the Philippines as a leading destination for digital and technological investments in Southeast Asia at the conclusion of what he labeled his “most productive working visit” to Singapore.

In a statement released on Thursday, July 16, Marcos highlighted the nation’s eagerness to play a larger role in driving regional economic and technological progress.

”We have showcased the Philippines as a nation ready to lead, ready to innovate, and ready to partner in shaping the future of our region,” Marcos said in his post-visit statement on Thursday, July 16.

Speaking at the Milken Institute Roundtable Discussion with corporate leaders, the President detailed key national economic reforms designed to boost foreign investor interest. These initiatives include:

  • The Luzon Economic Corridor (LEC)
  • The Public-Private Partnership (PPP) Code
  • The Green Lanes for Strategic Investments program

Marcos also pointed to the Philippines’ recent transition to upper-middle-income status, noting that the milestone demonstrates “the resilience of our economy, the strength of our reforms, and the confidence of the international community in our future.”

According to Marcos, dialogues with Singaporean companies yielded new pledges to scale up investments in vital industries, including artificial intelligence, telecommunications, healthcare, and digital infrastructure.

Specifically, telecom giant Singtel reiterated its commitment to expand the footprint of NCS Philippines and advance its projects under ST Telemedia Global Data Centres.

Additionally, investment firm ABC Impact vowed to assist in the countrywide scaling of healthcare provider AC Health.

”We are not merely inviting investors to come to the Philippines—we are building an environment where innovation can flourish, businesses can thrive, and partnerships can create lasting value,” Marcos said.

During the trip, Marcos held a bilateral meeting with Singaporean Prime Minister Lawrence Wong to reinforce strong diplomatic bonds. The two leaders explored collaborative efforts spanning education, healthcare, trade, artificial intelligence, ecological programs, and cultural ties.

Both nations also committed to maintaining ASEAN centrality as Singapore gears up to chair the regional bloc next year, prior to the Philippines assuming the leadership role in 2027.

Reflecting on the three-day trip, Marcos stated that the engagements proved the country’s capacity “to serve as a reliable partner in driving growth and innovation across the region” while bolstering international faith in the country’s enduring economic prospects.
