President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to crack down on irregularities in public works, promising to hold individuals accountable for flawed government infrastructure while prioritizing flood control and public trust.
Speaking at the Foreign Correspondents Association of the Philippines (FOCAP) Presidential Luncheon in Manila, President Marcos emphasized that public investments must directly serve and protect vulnerable communities, particularly as the rainy season brings heightened flooding risks across the country.
He underscored that accountability and timely intervention are essential to safeguarding citizens and maximizing state funds.
“We will hold accountable all individuals responsible for the anomalous implementation of government infrastructure projects,” President Marcos stated, reinforcing a key promise from his recent State of the Nation Address.
“We are strengthening flood mitigation and disaster preparedness, and accelerating the implementation of critical interventions,” he added.
“Every peso invested in these projects must translate into real protection for our people and our communities,” the President emphasized.
Beyond physical infrastructure, President Marcos highlighted that meaningful governance relies heavily on public trust.
Addressing the media, he warned against the swift spread of disinformation, false content, and AI-generated fabrications on digital channels, stressing that both government officials and press members share a crucial duty to maintain truth and integrity.
“In that regard, you, in your role as journalists, and I, as a public servant, have something important in common: our credibility,” Marcos remarked.
Concluding his remarks, the President acknowledged the vital role of an independent press in holding power to account, combating fake news, and ensuring facts remain the foundation of public discourse.
