PBBM WELCOMES ₱17B FURUKAWA ELECTRIC EXPANSION FOR AI TECH IN PH

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on Thursday welcomed a massive ₱17-billion investment expansion from Japanese manufacturing giant Furukawa Electric Co. Ltd., a move expected to cement the Philippines’ footprint in the booming global artificial intelligence (AI) and electronics markets.

During a high-level meeting with company executives in Tokyo, President Marcos tackled the firm’s expansion plans at the Laguna Technopark. The project aims to heavily scale up the production of high-tech thermal management components and advanced heat sink modules.

These specialized cooling technologies are critical components driving AI servers, semiconductor systems, data centers, and global telecommunications infrastructure amid the worldwide surge in generative AI development.

Beyond the technological milestone, the multi-billion-peso venture is projected to create roughly 4,000 direct and indirect jobs for Filipino workers.

Malacañang stated that the President assured Furukawa officials of the administration’s full support for high-value manufacturing initiatives, aligned with the government’s goal of transforming the Philippines into Southeast Asia’s premier hub for digital innovation and electronics manufacturing.

Furukawa Electric has been a steady pillar of the local tech landscape since 1998, currently employing nearly 15,000 workers across its Laguna and Batangas hubs. The expansion further solidifies the electronics sector’s position as the Philippines’ top export driver and economic engine.
