PH REJECTS OMAN’S HIV TEST RULE FOR FILIPINO TRAVELERS

The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) has formally rejected a new regulation from Oman requiring Filipino travelers to present a negative HIV test result prior to entry.

In a statement released Friday, the DFA confirmed it has made “strong representations” to the Omani Embassy in Manila, urging the immediate removal of the requirement, which it flagged as discriminatory.

Omani officials clarified that the rule, which took effect on March 1, 2026, currently applies only to tourist travelers—particularly those entering under visa-free arrangements. Filipinos traveling on pre-issued work visas are exempt from the regulation.

Following Manila’s protest, Omani diplomats informed Philippine authorities that the policy is now being “seriously reviewed” by their government. A formal meeting between officials from both countries has been scheduled for next week to address the issue.

Despite the dispute, the DFA expressed optimism that the matter will be resolved promptly, noting the longstanding diplomatic ties between the Philippines and Oman.

“The DFA expects a positive outcome given the good and strong relationship between the Philippines and Oman,” the agency said.
