The Philippine National Police (PNP) announced that the nationwide celebration of the 128th Independence Day on June 12 was generally peaceful and orderly.
PNP Chief PGen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. confirmed that no major security breaches or untoward incidents disrupted the various public gatherings and commemorative events across the country.
Nartatez personally monitored the security situation from the PNP Command Center at Camp Crame alongside Interior and Local Government Secretary Jonvic Remulla, utilizing the police force’s national network of live surveillance cameras for real-time updates.
To ensure public safety, the PNP placed all its units on full alert status and deployed nearly 9,000 officers nationwide. The PNP Chief noted that intelligence reports showed no credible threats against the national festivities.
The day passed with minimal disruption, except for a minor incident in Metro Manila. A police officer was sprayed with paint on his head and shoulder while trying to stop an individual from vandalizing a wall along Kalaw Avenue. Security forces quickly contained the situation, preventing further escalation.
Nartatez commended the police personnel for their professionalism and strict adherence to the policy of maximum tolerance when managing public demonstrators.
Matching this assessment, the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) reported that all Independence Day activities in the metro concluded without any major incidents.
