The Quezon City Jail Male Dormitory (QCJMD) is ready to take custody of Senator Jinggoy Estrada once the Sandiganbayan releases an arrest warrant for his plunder case, Interior and Local Government Secretary Jonvic Remulla confirmed.
Remulla stated that the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) has finalized logistics for Estrada’s detention. The senator is facing a non-bailable plunder charge tied to allegations of receiving kickbacks from various flood control initiatives.
While the anti-graft court has not yet issued the official arrest warrant for the plunder charge, Estrada recently managed to secure temporary freedom by posting bail for a separate, related graft case currently pending before the Sandiganbayan.
If the court orders his arrest, Estrada will likely be held at the QCJMD. He would share the facility with other high-profile individuals, including former Senator Ramon “Bong” Revilla Jr., within a section set aside for those linked to the controversial flood control fund scheme.
On May 29, Estrada posted a ₱90,000 bail bond to secure his temporary release regarding the graft charges, which are also connected to the disputed public infrastructure projects.
The legal battles before the Sandiganbayan developed from accusations of unauthorized budget allocations and the distribution of over ₱573 million in suspected kickbacks. These funds were allegedly tied to Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) projects outlined in the 2025 national budget.
In addition to the graft indictments, Estrada faces the more severe plunder charge handled by the Sandiganbayan Fifth Division—a capital offense that remains strictly non-bailable under existing Philippine jurisprudence.
