MANILA, Philippines — House prosecutors are asking the public to remain patient as they build their case establishing direct connections between Vice President Sara Duterte and businessman Jaime T. Cruz in the ongoing impeachment trial.
San Juan City Representative Ysabel Maria Zamora, a member of the House prosecution panel and part of the “Young Guns” bloc, addressed questions during a recent online interview regarding corporate records from the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).
The documents introduced under Article II of the impeachment complaint—which focuses on allegations of unexplained wealth—list both Duterte and Cruz in connection with entities such as Metro City Chow Foods Corporation and Gencorp Industries Inc.
When pressed on why the panel has yet to detail a definitive link between the two, Zamora maintained that the material evidence will be disclosed at the appropriate juncture.
“Well, we have the evidence for that. So I just ask everyone to be patient as we will be presenting the evidence that we are all awaiting,” Zamora said.
“Well, I think that’s something that I cannot disclose,” Zamora added regarding the timing and specifics of the evidence.
The prosecution panel continues to present financial and corporate records to support its claims under the four articles of impeachment.
Following the conclusion of the prosecution’s turn, Vice President Duterte’s defense team will present its rebuttal before the senator-judges, who hold the final authority to evaluate all presented evidence.
