PROSECUTORS HIGHLIGHT UNREPORTED MILLION-PESO PROPERTIES IN VP SARA’S IMPEACHMENT TRIAL

PASAY CITY, Philippines — House prosecutors in the impeachment trial of Vice President Sara Duterte presented real estate documents on Thursday, October 1, alleging that multi-million-peso properties tied to her husband were left off her official wealth declarations.

Bukidnon 2nd District Representative Jonathan Keith Flores, speaking for the prosecution panel during the presentation of evidence for Article II, emphasized the weight of the alleged unreported assets under review.

Article II accuses the Vice President of failing to fully and truthfully disclose her and her spouse’s assets, liabilities, and net worth.

The panel introduced registry records for a 379-square-meter lot in Matina, Davao City, purchased for ₱6 million in July 2024 under the name of Duterte’s husband, Atty. Manases “Mans” Carpio.

When compared with Duterte’s 2025 Statement of Assets, Liabilities, and Net Worth (SALN), no corresponding entry was found for the purchase, though defense counsel argued the land could match an existing listing in the disclosure.

Addressing the Senate impeachment court, Flores put the financial scale of the asset into context for average citizens.

“Maaari pong sabihin na ilang milyon piso lang ito, pero sa ordinaryong Pilipino po, malaking halaga na ito, ang ₱6 million,” Flores said.

Prosecutors followed up by presenting documents for a second property located in the Island Garden City of Samal, which was acquired in 2018 for ₱3,453,849 and remains registered under Carpio’s name.

Acting Samal Register of Deeds Atty. Marco Pineda testified that a review of Duterte’s 2019 SALN yielded no matching record based on the acquisition year, location, and purchase price.

“Nothing matches the land described in the Deed of Absolute Sale dated 2018, sir,” Pineda told senator-judges.

Reiterating the prosecution’s point during the examination of the Samal land records, Flores highlighted the cumulative impact of the disputed acquisitions.

“Maaari pong sabihin na, again, ilang milyon piso lang ’to, but para sa iba, malaking halaga na po itong P3.4 million, Your Honor,” Flores added.
