REMULLA UNDECIDED ON 2028 PRESIDENCY, LEANS TOWARD CAVITE RETURN

Interior Secretary Jonvic Remulla shared that he remains on the fence regarding a potential presidential bid in the 2028 elections, revealing a preference to return to local governance in Cavite where he feels his work is incomplete.

“I don’t know. I really don’t know… I am leaning towards going back to Cavite. I am leaning towards running for governor again. I still have unfinished business in the province,” Remulla stated during a televised broadcast with veteran journalist Rico Hizon.

While the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) chief expressed confidence in his capacity to govern the nation, he questioned whether the electorate would embrace his specific approach to governance.

“I know what to do. I know how to fix this country. But, I don’t think the country is ready for me,” he remarked, explaining that his strategies and “language” might deviate from conventional voter expectations.

Rather than focusing on his own ambitions, Remulla highlighted other cabinet members as viable national leaders, specifically endorsing Education Secretary Sonny Angara and Public Works Secretary Vince Dizon.

“I think Sonny Angara would be a good candidate. I think Vince Dizon is a good candidate. They know what to do. They’re very good people. They’re honest people,” he added.

According to Remulla, the country’s modern hurdles require a future leadership cohort defined by unwavering integrity, a robust resolve, intellectual curiosity, and a grounded moral compass.

The current DILG chief previously governed Cavite from 2010 to 2016 and again from 2019 to 2025. He assumed his cabinet role after succeeding former Interior Secretary Benhur Abalos, who vacated the post to run in the 2025 midterm senatorial elections but failed to secure a seat.
