Bicol Saro Party-list Representative Terry Ridon declared that the Supreme Court (SC) has effectively put an end to claims from Vice President Sara Duterte’s camp regarding the alleged illegality of her impeachment process.
Ridon, a member of the House prosecution panel, welcomed the High Court’s ruling on Wednesday afternoon, August 6.
”Mataas ang pagtitiwala namin na sa dulo ng labang ito, katotohanan, pananagutan at bayan ang magtatagumpay,” the lawyer-legislator emphasized, noting that the ongoing Senate impeachment trial is now the sole venue for truth and accountability.
Wednesday marked the 13th day of the Senate proceedings following Duterte’s impeachment by the House of Representatives on May 11, after the House Committee on Justice approved two of four complaints for sufficiency in form and substance.
The trial stems from allegations involving the misuse of ₱612.5 million in confidential funds, untruthful SALN declarations, unexplained wealth, and alleged threats against top government officials.
This follows an earlier February 2025 impeachment attempt that was ultimately struck down by the SC on technical grounds without reaching trial.
