SANDIGANBAYAN ORDERS INDEPENDENT MEDICAL CHECK FOR MARCOLETA

The Sandiganbayan Third Division has stepped into the medical detention case of Senator Rodante Marcoleta, directing an independent medical evaluation to be performed at the University of the Philippines–Philippine General Hospital (UP-PGH).

According to a formal resolution released on July 13, 2026, the anti-graft court ordered personnel from the PNP Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (PNP-CIDG) and PNP health officers to transfer Senator Marcoleta to UP-PGH on July 14 for a thorough health check.

UP-PGH Director Dr. Gerardo Legaspi, or an authorized medical representative, has been assigned by the court to lead the physical assessment. The subsequent medical report must outline a definitive professional opinion on whether there is an “imperative need” for the senator’s continued hospital stay.

To verify the evaluation, the Sandiganbayan ordered Dr. Legaspi and the involved medical specialists to attend a court hearing on July 15. The medical team will be required to give testimony regarding the senator’s physical condition and formally submit their clinical diagnoses.

The latest court order builds upon a previous legal mandate issued by the judiciary to validate the actual health status of the lawmaker, who is currently staying at the PNP General Hospital.
