During its plenary session on Wednesday, August 5, the Senate officially recognized the legacy of late Ateneo student-athlete Rene “Bobet” Baterbonia by adopting Senate Resolution No. 472. The measure pays tribute to his basketball achievements and the enduring inspiration he offered to young Filipinos.
Baterbonia’s parents, Rene Sr. and Rovelyn Baterbonia, along with other family members and relatives, were present during the session as lawmakers paid homage to the late athlete.
The resolution formally commended Baterbonia’s accomplishments within the Ateneo basketball program, highlighting the discipline, sportsmanship, and pursuit of excellence that defined his athletic career.
Lawmakers emphasized that his life continues to serve as an inspiring model for youth aspiring to succeed in both academics and sports.
Baterbonia tragically passed away alongside fellow Ateneo basketball player Divine Adili during a drowning incident at a team-building event in Dipaculao, Aurora, on June 8. The Senate is also expected to adopt a separate resolution to honor Adili.
