SENATE BOOSTS SECURITY FOR VP SARA’S IMPEACHMENT TRIAL

The Senate Office of the Sergeant-at-Arms (OSAA) has confirmed that there are currently no known security threats directed at the upcoming impeachment trial of Vice President Sara Duterte on July 6. Even with the clean bill of health, security protocols at the complex will remain elevated out of caution.

Senate Sergeant-at-Arms Alfred Sotto Corpus clarified on June 22 that intelligence monitoring has not picked up any specific warnings regarding the high-profile trial.

“None,” Corpus said when asked about possible threats.

However, Corpus pointed out that the decision to keep guards on high alert is driven by the wider security landscape across Metro Manila rather than a direct threat to the Senate itself.

“Kasi yung security environment, not necessarily dito sa Senate, the whole National Capital Region, ganoon pa yung threat level. So heightened security pa rin tayo.”

According to Corpus, this heightened alert status will stick around until intelligence updates from law enforcement partners show that regional conditions have fully stabilized.

While the existing security setup is already robust, the public can expect to see more boots on the ground once the trial officially kicks off.

“Siguro, we will just add yung visibility ng ating mga law enforcers, ng OSAA, ng Philippine National Police, at ng allied forces.”

OSAA continues to work closely with national police forces to validate ongoing threat assessments ahead of the July proceedings.
