SENATE IMPEACHMENT TRIBUNAL ORDERS BANKS TO TURN OVER VP SARA’S FINANCIAL RECORDS BY SEPT. 2

Financial and banking institutions named in the Senate impeachment tribunal’s latest directive have until September 2 to turn over peso-denominated financial records pertaining to Vice President Sara Duterte, her spouse Atty. Manases “Mans” Carpio, and 20 affiliated business entities.

Presiding Officer Senator Francis “Chiz” Escudero established the seven-calendar-day timeline on Wednesday, applying the same conditions set during the court’s July 20 ruling regarding financial subpoenas.

“The request for subpoena directed to the concerned banking institutions… and financial institutions covering the respondent, her spouse, Attorney Manases Carpio, as well as 20 entities allowed by this court in which the spouses hold an interest is hereby granted,” Escudero declared.

Escudero emphasized that the mandate applies strictly to accounts held in local currency and excludes foreign currency holdings unless explicit written authorization is granted by the account holder. The recipient institutions must furnish all requested documentation to the Clerk of Court within seven calendar days, setting the submission deadline for next Wednesday.

Responding to the order, defense lead counsel Atty. Sheila Sison formally noted that Duterte’s legal team retains its right to present appropriate objections and pursue available legal avenues concerning the subpoenaed documents.

The recent mandate expands upon the impeachment court’s July 20 decision allowing access to designated financial files connected to Duterte as senator-judges continue evaluating evidence in the ongoing proceedings.
