Lawmakers from the Senate majority bloc have pledged full attendance for the upcoming special session called by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., slated for Wednesday, June 17, to fast-track critical legislation.
Senate Majority Leader Juan Miguel “Migs” Zubiri pointed out that the urgent assembly will focus heavily on social services, stressing that the chamber is ready to advance these reforms without interruption.
Concurrently, the Commission on Appointments will meet to review and process the promotions of senior military officials from the Armed Forces of the Philippines, alongside diplomatic representatives from the Department of Foreign Affairs.
Expressing absolute certainty in the scheduled workflow, Senator Erwin Tulfo noted that the upper chamber is organized for a demanding, full-day session.
He anticipated that the body would successfully approve the priority measures and pending designations before adjournment, adding that attendance could potentially meet or exceed the threshold required for leadership-related matters.
Senator Francis “Kiko” Pangilinan also discussed the procedural layout for the session, clarifying that the Senate can legally establish a quorum and conduct business even if the minority bloc is absent.
According to Pangilinan, a minimum of 12 senators must be present to move forward. The confirmed participation of key lawmakers, including Senator Joel Villanueva, indicates that the chamber has a clear path to reaching that operational threshold.
