SENATE READY FOR TRUTH, NO PLANS TO BLOCK VP SARA’S TRIAL — GO

Senator Christopher “Bong” Go clarified on Monday that he and other allies of Vice President Sara Duterte in the Senate have no intention of obstructing a potential impeachment trial, stressing that the chamber must serve as an impartial court.

As the House of Representatives moves toward a historic vote on the articles of impeachment, Go emphasized that his primary interest is for the truth to prevail, framing the proceedings as a constitutional obligation rather than a partisan battle.

“Bilang senator-judge and to be impartial at lumabas yung katotohanan. At ako naman sa tagal ng haka-haka na maaaring dumating po dito sa Senado, eh gusto natin lumabas yung katotohanan,” Go told reporters.

The senator, who served as the Special Assistant to the Vice President’s father, former President Rodrigo Duterte, denied rumors that a pro-Duterte bloc is organizing to derail the process once it reaches the upper house.

“Wala naman po. Wala naman pong ganung usapan na haharangin… Ako naman, gusto kong maging impartial tayo sa mga kasamahan ko dito sa Senado. The truth lamang po. Yun lang naman po ang gusto malaman ng Pilipinas,” he added.

The statement comes amidst persistent rumors of a leadership shake-up in the Senate. However, Senate President Vicente “Tito” Sotto III, who assumed the post in late 2025, dismissed talk of a “coup” intended to delay the trial.

Sotto maintained that the Senate is prepared to act “forthwith” and could convene as an impeachment court as early as Wednesday, May 13, should the House transmit the articles.

The House of Representatives is expected to vote this afternoon on Committee Report No. 261, which contains four articles of impeachment against the Vice President involving allegations of confidential fund misuse, unexplained wealth, and bribery.
