Retail electricity supplier Shell Energy Philippines Inc. (SEPH) has expanded its clean energy commitment after entering into a second 15-year power supply contract with Greenlight Renewables Holdings Inc. for an additional 120 megawatt-peak (MWp) from a solar facility in Leyte.
In a official statement released Tuesday, September 8, SEPH revealed that the new deal effectively doubles its contracted capacity from the San Isidro Solar Power Project. The agreement was formally executed with project developer San Isidro Solar Power Corporation, an operating unit of Greenlight Renewables.
This latest contract builds upon a previous 15-year supply agreement that covered the solar farm’s initial phase. Combined, both supply contracts secure a total of 240 MWp in solar capacity, bolstering SEPH’s clean energy offerings aimed at serving industrial and commercial clients across the country.
Both development phases of the Leyte-based solar installation are fully operational and currently transmitting power to the Visayas power grid. Phase 1 achieved initial energization in October 2025, while Phase 2 went live on July 30.
Shell Energy Philippines President Bernd Krukenberg highlighted that the broadened partnership aligns with efforts to broaden access to clean power amidst surging national energy consumption.
“Our continued partnership with Greenlight reflects a shared commitment to making renewable energy available to customers while supporting the country’s growing energy requirements,” Krukenberg said.
Greenlight Renewables President and CEO Darlene Arguelles underscored the importance of cross-industry synergies in scaling up renewable generation and offering varied energy choices to local consumers.
“We are grateful for our partnership with Shell, which truly goes far beyond the traditional business relationship. We are committed to uplifting our communities and bringing renewable capacity to the country,” Arguelles said.
The agreement comes as the Philippine power sector works toward balancing grid stability, power cost affordability, and national sustainability objectives. Utility-scale projects such as the San Isidro solar plant are increasingly deployed to complement conventional baseload power plants to drive economic growth.
Alongside its solar power purchase agreements and battery energy storage system (BESS) initiatives, SEPH is actively seeking opportunities to integrate onshore wind installations into its clean energy portfolio.
