MANILA, Philippines — Six higher education institutions in the Philippines secured places in the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings 2027, with Ateneo de Manila University holding its position as the top-ranked school in the country for the fifth straight year.

In the latest results published Wednesday by the London-based organization, Ateneo placed within the 1,001–1,200 bracket globally. The University of the Philippines followed in the 1,201–1,400 group, while the University of Santo Tomas landed in the 1,601–1,800 band.

De La Salle University and Mapúa University were both categorized in the 1,801–2,000 rank tier, with Mindanao State University–Iligan Institute of Technology placed in the 2,001+ category.

A total of 2,297 institutions across 118 nations and territories were evaluated in the current edition of the global rankings.

“The THE World University Rankings measure what matters most to sector leaders, strategists and policymakers: research excellence and impact; the teaching environment; global academic standing; links with industry beyond the ivory towers; and international talent attraction, reach and influence,” said THE Chief Global Affairs Officer Phil Baty.

The assessment framework measures institutions across five primary pillars—Teaching, Research Environment, Research Quality, International Outlook, and Industry—encompassing 18 individual performance metrics.

On the global level, the University of Oxford maintained its ranking as the world’s leading university.

Established in 2004, the annual THE evaluation reviews research-led universities through institutional data, scholarly citations, and global academic reputation surveys.
