House Speaker Faustino “Bojie” Dy III lauded tennis sensation Alex Eala on Tuesday following her historic victory at the Mubadala DC Open, calling her breakthrough as the first Filipino to claim a Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) Tour singles title a testament to how dedication and sacrifice can unite and inspire a nation.
“Ang sarap ng pakiramdam na makita kang manalo, Alex,” Dy shared in a social media post.
“Years of sweat and sacrifice resulted in history—the first Filipina to win a WTA title. Nakakatuwang isipin na ang pinaghirapan ng isang Pilipina ay nakapagpasaya sa milyun-milyong Pilipino,” the House leader added.
Dy highlighted the championship as a landmark achievement for both Philippine tennis and the nation as a whole, emphasizing that her triumph represents the ultimate reward for perseverance, discipline, and a strong pursuit of excellence.
He added that Eala’s journey serves as a powerful reminder for young Filipinos to relentlessly chase their goals despite any obstacles.

Eala made history as the first Filipina player to secure a WTA singles title after mounting a thrilling comeback against world No. 3 and top seed Jessica Pegula, 4-6, 6-4, 6-0, in a rain-delayed final in Washington.
Her remarkable title run included stunning victories over 2024 Olympic champion Zheng Qinwen, defending champion Leylah Fernandez, second seed Elina Svitolina, and former world No. 1 Naomi Osaka.
