The Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) announced that three Filipino archbishops will be bestowed the prestigious pallium by Pope Leo XIV at St. Peter’s Basilica. The formal investiture is scheduled for June 29, coinciding with the Solemnity of Saints Peter and Paul.
The ceremony will recognize newly designated metropolitan archbishops from across the globe, featuring Cebu’s Archbishop Alberto Uy, Cotabato’s Archbishop Charlie Inzon, and Nueva Segovia’s Archbishop David William Antonio.
The three prelates took leadership of their respective archdioceses during a transition period spanning late 2025 and early 2026.
Anticipating the spiritual milestone, Archbishop Uy extended his appreciation to the Catholic community while asking for their spiritual backing.
”Pray for me and for my fellow archbishops, that the Lord may grant us safe travel and help us to be faithful shepherds of His people,” he said.
The pallium is a distinct vestment crafted from white wool and stitched with six black silk crosses. As explained by the CBCP, it represents the pastoral responsibilities borne by a metropolitan archbishop, their close ties to the Pope, and their duty to shepherd the flock. The vestment is fastened with three pins, traditionally symbolizing the nails from Christ’s crucifixion.
Rich in heritage, the wool utilized for the pallium comes from lambs blessed on the Feast of St. Agnes, and the completed bands are kept overnight near the tomb of St. Peter for consecration.
For the Filipino prelates, the upcoming ritual cements their ecclesiastical governance over their regions and reinforces their bond with Rome.
