Former Senator Antonio Trillanes IV made a surprise appearance at the Senate on Monday, sparking a confrontation after claiming that the International Criminal Court (ICC) has issued an arrest warrant for Senator Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa.
Trillanes alleged that he possesses a copy of the warrant and that the international body is now simply awaiting the implementation of the arrest.
“May warrant. Pinakita ko nga yung warrant. So hinihintay na yung mag-aaresto. Yung ICC,” Trillanes told reporters in the Senate halls.
The claim surfaced during a chaotic day at the upper chamber, where Senator Dela Rosa returned to the plenary for the first time since November 2024 to participate in the installation of a new Senate leadership. However, the mood quickly soured as Dela Rosa reported a standoff involving Trillanes and law enforcement agents.
Addressing the plenary, Dela Rosa accused agents from the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) and Trillanes of occupying the Senate library. He further alleged that the NBI personnel attempted to physically bar him from entering the building.
The Senate has yet to issue a formal statement regarding the presence of NBI agents within the premises or the validity of the document cited by Trillanes.
