Former Senator Antonio Trillanes IV announced on Monday his plans to file an additional complaint against the 18 former bodyguards of former Ako Bicol Party-list Representative Zaldy Co.
Trillanes shared the update while attending the Department of Justice’s (DOJ) ongoing preliminary investigation regarding a cyber libel complaint that he and several other individuals had previously filed against the group.
According to Trillanes, the upcoming legal action is prompted by testimonies delivered by the former bodyguards during a June 4 Senate hearing, which was overseen by the bloc associated with Senate President Alan Peter Cayetano.
”I will be filing another one for the latest statements they made,” Trillanes said.
Meanwhile, Levito Baligod, the legal counsel for the 18 former bodyguards, revealed that the Office of the Ombudsman has reached out to schedule a meeting with his clients.
”Recently, nakatanggap ako ng tawag galing sa Office of the Ombudsman at humingi sila sa akin ng schedule kung kalian maaaring pumunta ang mga sundalo doon. Meron na kaming schedule, mag-umpisa sa June 11 and then 15, 16, onwards na,” Baligod said.
Baligod affirmed that his clients intend to fully cooperate with the Ombudsman’s directive and will appear at the designated dates.
“Of course,” he said when asked if they would comply. “Kasi doon namin ni-file affidavit.”
