Cumulative damage to public infrastructure and the agricultural sector stemming from recent tropical cyclones and the enhanced southwest monsoon has climbed to nearly ₱10.8 billion, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council reported on Thursday, September 3.
Latest agency assessments indicate that agricultural destruction accounts for approximately ₱3 billion of the total, leaving a trail of devastation across the Ilocos Region, Cagayan Valley, Cordillera Administrative Region, Central Luzon, Calabarzon, Mimaropa, and Western Visayas.
Disaster officials reported that severe weather ruined roughly 67,688.27 hectares of agricultural fields, with 20,125.46 hectares categorized as having > “no chance of recovery” and an additional 47,562.81 hectares identified as having a > “partial chance of recovery”.
The council added that the natural hazards adversely affected 74,262 farmers and fisherfolk nationwide.
Infrastructure bore the heaviest brunt of the weather disturbances, with estimated losses reaching about ₱7.78 billion across the Ilocos Region, Cordillera, Central Luzon, Calabarzon, Mimaropa, and Western Visayas.
In addition, roughly 3,851 residential structures sustained damage in the Ilocos Region, Cordillera, Central Luzon, National Capital Region, Calabarzon, Mimaropa, and Western Visayas.
