Tropical Storm Peilou was spotted outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) and is unlikely to directly impact the country, according to the state weather bureau PAGASA on Tuesday, August 11.
In its 5:00 AM bulletin, PAGASA stated that the storm has a low probability of entering PAR as it tracks away from the Philippine landmass. As of late monitoring, Peilou was located approximately 3,325 kilometers east of extreme Northern Luzon, packing maximum sustained winds of 85 km/h near the center and gusts of up to 105 km/h while moving east-northeastward at 25 km/h.
Meanwhile, the southwest monsoon (Habagat) continues to affect Luzon, though its intensity is expected to gradually ease. Heavy rainfall will mainly affect the western sections of Luzon on Tuesday.
PAGASA projected occasional heavy rains over Zambales, Bataan, and Occidental Mindoro. Metro Manila, Calabarzon, parts of Central Luzon, Benguet, Pangasinan, and Camarines Norte can expect cloudy skies with scattered rain showers, while the rest of Luzon will see improving weather conditions with periods of sunshine.
Despite the weakening monsoon, PAGASA advised residents in saturated areas—particularly Benguet, Pangasinan, Zambales, Bataan, and Occidental Mindoro—to stay alert for potential flooding and landslides.
Monsoon effects are expected to diminish further by Wednesday, with heavy rains mostly confined to Zambales, Bataan, and Occidental Mindoro.
