Tropical Storm Pilandok slowed its movement over the Philippine Sea on Wednesday morning while staying on a trajectory away from the country’s landmass, state weather bureau PAGASA reported.
In its 5 a.m. weather update, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration located the storm’s center 1,205 kilometers east-northeast of Extreme Northern Luzon.
Weather forecasters stated that Pilandok will maintain tropical storm intensity while tracking northwestward. The storm remains projected to exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) by early Thursday morning, September 3.
Pilandok was recorded moving east-northeastward at a speed of 10 km/h. It packs maximum sustained winds of 65 km/h near the center, gustiness reaching up to 80 km/h, and a central pressure of 998 hectopascals. Strong to gale-force winds extend outward up to 580 kilometers from its center.
No Tropical Cyclone Wind Signals have been hoisted in any region of the country.
PAGASA reminded the public that heavy rains and severe wind conditions can still impact localities outside the storm’s forecast confidence cone or projected landfall area. The agency added that the cyclone’s movement may still shift within the limits of its track forecast.
Disaster management units and local residents in areas vulnerable to weather hazards are advised to follow safety directives and evacuation instructions from local authorities.
PAGASA urged the public to stay updated through rainfall advisories, severe weather bulletins, and heavy rainfall warnings issued by its regional branches.
