QUEZON CITY, Philippines — The extension or trough of Tropical Storm Surigae, located outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR), is expected to bring rainfall to several regions across the country, the state weather bureau reported on Thursday.
According to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), Surigae was spotted 1,500 kilometers east of Northern Luzon as of 3:00 a.m. The storm will be assigned the domestic name “Queenie” once it crosses into the PAR.
Scattered rain showers and thunderstorms driven by the storm’s trough will affect Biliran, Leyte, Southern Leyte, the Dinagat Islands, Surigao del Norte, and Surigao del Sur. PAGASA cautioned residents in these areas that moderate to heavy rainfall may trigger flash floods or landslides.
Isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms linked to the storm’s outer band will also persist over the Bicol Region and remaining parts of Eastern Visayas.
Elsewhere in the country, localized thunderstorms will bring brief, isolated rain showers, with severe weather conditions potentially causing localized flooding or landslips.
PAGASA added that light to moderate winds paired with slight to moderate sea conditions will prevail nationwide.
