TULFO URGES ACCOUNTABILITY IN FLOOD CONTROL PROBE AMID ECONOMIC PRESSURES

Senator Erwin Tulfo on Sunday underscored that the government must not abandon its pursuit of accountability in the “flood control mess,” even as the country faces rising prices and a looming energy crisis.

Tulfo said that while addressing the immediate impacts of the Middle East conflict is a priority, investigations into government anomalies must continue.

“We should prioritize the ill effects of the ongoing war, especially curbing skyrocketing prices of goods. What if natural calamities hit us? We really have to iron out a long-term plan,” the senator said.

With tensions escalating between the US, Israel, and Iran, Tulfo called for an urgent energy crisis plan. He also pushed for expanding government assistance to include the middle class, describing them as “those who are one hospital bill away from poverty.”

Despite pressing economic concerns, Tulfo stressed that Congress has a duty to address corruption.

“While we want to prioritize crisis-driven issues and solutions to ensure that every Filipino family are taken care of, it is our duty to exact accountability,” he added.

Tulfo also welcomed the recent arrest of former Ako Bicol Party-list Representative Zaldy Co in Prague, Czech Republic. Co is a central figure in the Senate’s investigation into anomalous flood control projects.

The senator expressed hope that Co’s return and potential testimony before the Senate Blue Ribbon Committee would help conclude the probe.

“We should finalize the Senate investigation on this once and for all, so we can move forward with other problems the country is facing,” Tulfo stressed.
