TYPHOON INDAY EXITS PAR, HEADS TOWARD CHINA

Typhoon Inday has officially left the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) as of 8:20 AM on Saturday, July 11, according to the state weather bureau.

In its 10:00 AM bulletin, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) reported that the typhoon was spotted 590 kilometers north-northeast of Itbayat, Batanes.

The storm maintains maximum sustained winds of 140 km/h near the center, gusts of up to 170 km/h, and a central pressure of 950 hPa, while moving north-northwest at 20 km/h.

While the typhoon is no longer within the country’s jurisdiction, Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal (TCWS) No. 1 stays hoisted over Batanes.

Meteorologists forecast that Inday will continue traveling northwest over the East China Sea, with a projected landfall over mainland China’s eastern coast between Saturday night, July 11, and Sunday morning, July 12.

PAGASA added that the storm will likely hold its typhoon strength for the next 12 hours before degrading into a severe tropical storm as it pushes further inland over China.
