At least 17 individuals have lost their lives, nine people remain missing, and four others sustained injuries as the combined forces of Typhoon Inday and the enhanced southwest monsoon (habagat) battered several regions of the country, the Office of Civil Defense (OCD) reported.
In its 6 a.m. situation report on Saturday, July 11, the disaster response agency detailed that the fatalities emerged from Mindanao, with 10 casualties recorded in Malapatan, Sarangani, five in Calanogas, Lanao del Sur, and two in Bukidnon. Local authorities confirmed that drowning and severe landslides triggered by torrential rains were the primary causes of death.
Search and rescue operations are ongoing for the nine missing individuals, which include three residents from Malapatan and six from Calanogas. Meanwhile, the four reported injuries resulted from separate landslide incidents across Marinduque, Sarangani, and Lanao del Sur.
The severe weather also caused power outages in six areas within the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) and Calabarzon.
According to the OCD, the onslaught of Typhoon Inday and the monsoon has impacted a total of 514,738 individuals, or roughly 112,505 families, nationwide. The displacement has forced around 11,200 people into 77 state-run evacuation centers, while over 7,000 other families are seeking temporary shelter elsewhere. The weather disturbances also left 153 houses damaged.
In response, the government has distributed an estimated ₱16.41 million in relief aid to the stricken communities as operations continue.
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) confirmed that Typhoon Inday officially exited the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) at 8 a.m. on Saturday.
